Practice, Improve, And Keep Your Chin Up

Description

So when I was a wee little 14 year old, I sat in Art1 class in high school and my teacher told us to draw what we did that weekend. I had weedwacked the lawn, and never settling, decided to make a cool cyborg out of it. After that, I sort of decided that each level of art class would see me re-make that drawing to the best of my ability.

I never did one for AP art, or through most of college. I forgot to, I suppose. Or thought it dumb. But today I came back to the sketch and banged out a drawing and some quick greyscale effects to show how far I've come- now that I'm all of 22 (o_o).

These all took about the same amount of time- the third one being "inked" so it took a little longer. Ah, that was a fun phase. I've improved a lot, and what doesn't show is my ability to paint and finish a piece, but hey. What's that? Anatomy? Proportion? Weight? Dynamicism? Facial proportion (sort of)? Materiality? Cloth Folds?

You learn a lot in art class. Keep your chin up.

I love seeing artists' early works- it shows how far practice can take us. :D Thanks for sharing! You've improved massively since HS art classes- that college sketch looks like it could be concept art for a video game or something. Making a cool cyborg out of a boring "draw what you did this weekend" assignment was very inventive and clever- I wish I could weed the yard like that. Heck, forget the yard, let's fight alien monsters!! That's an idea- a cyborg gardener who steps up to save a multigenerational starship that was boarded by hostile aliens, who uses his built-in chopper arm and scavenged weapons to defend himself, hmmm....
